Are Homeopathic Remedies Safe?
It is widely written and said that homeopathy is "harmless" and has no side effects. There are many books and reference books for home use, and the Internet is full of recommendations and recipes for how to treat yourself. But on the other hand, why then does the training of a homeopath take years, not to say lifelong?
Homeopathic products come in many forms such as pellets, oral droplets, syrups, creams, and ointments. These products are made up of substances that come from plants, minerals, or animals. These products are generally low-risk. Because of the microdoses used, homeopathic medicines are non-toxic.
In many cases, individual homeopathic medicines can be beneficial in treating several different conditions or illnesses.
When used properly, they are safe for everyone, including pregnant women, newborns, children, and seniors.
Health Canada regulates homeopathic products as a type of natural health product. Health Canada reviews homeopathic products to make sure that they are safe and that the health claims (what the product claims to do) are supported by textbooks and other references used in the practice of homeopathy (e.g., pharmacopeia, Materia medica).
